hypothetical career day

My son's middle school had their big career day event a couple weeks ago. I didn't bother offering to do a Stay-at-Home Mom exhibit, but it got me thinking about next year, because what if I actually sell something between now and then? Will I be qualified to show up as their token Writer? And what, exactly, should be included in such a showcase? Rejection letters, perhaps. I could three-hole punch all of mine and put them in a huge binder. Or two. Probably three. If I stuff them tight. I could bring a few paper boxes full of pages, too. Another set of boxes could hold my plethora of books on craft and inspiration. If I brought all the YA I read (which is supposed to be prep but really just an excuse for entertainment), there's a chance some of it could walk away from my table. Maybe a list would suffice. It'd be lighter, too. Most importantly, though, I'd put up a big sign that said, WANT TO WRITE? START NOW, SO YOU CAN BE CONSIDERED AN OVERNIGHT SUCCESS AT 23!

23? You might want to edit that sign to 40! ; )

Gosh, you make it sound so attractive! You forgot the tools of the trade - chocolate, tissues... :-D

I was going to edit your sign to say 40, too, but I see someone already beat me to it ;-)

Ha! I figured the average I hear about is ten years on breaking into the market, and they're all around thirteen. I like the chocolate & kleenex idea, too!
